Description
Bridal Veil Falls & Tonsina Point Paddle – Guided Sea Kayaking in Resurrection Bay
This is one of the most scenic and accessible paddles in the Seward area — a guided half-day kayak that hugs the dramatic coastline south from Lowell Point to one of two stunning destinations: the cascading Bridal Veil Waterfall, where a powerful falls drops directly into the sea from the cliffs above, or Tonsina Landing Beach, gateway to a short walk through the lush Chugach temperate rainforest. Your guide makes the call on the day based on weather, tides, and conditions — either way, you're in for something special.
The paddle itself is easy and unhurried, covering approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) each way along sheltered coastline with plenty to see along the way. Keep your eyes on the water for river otters diving for snacks, Dall's porpoises surfacing nearby, and harbor seals poking their heads up with curiosity. Bald eagles are a near-constant presence, perched high in the Sitka spruce lining the cliffs. The shoreline itself rewards slow, quiet paddling — kelp beds, rocky outcroppings, and the thick temperate rainforest pressing right to the water's edge.
Once ashore, your guide leads a short nature walk through an extraordinary coastal forest — mossy old-growth trees, devil's club, berry bushes, and plants unique to Alaska's coastline. At Bridal Veil, the falls is the main event: dramatic, close, and easily one of the most photogenic spots in Resurrection Bay. At Tonsina, the rainforest walk itself is the draw, with uneven terrain that adds to the sense of genuine wilderness exploration.
With a 7 a.m. morning departure and a 7 p.m. evening departure, this trip offers two very different moods. Morning brings crisp coastal air and glassy water; the evening paddle often features golden light reflecting off calm seas — one of the most beautiful ways to spend a summer evening in Seward, returning around 10–11 p.m. under Alaska's long summer sky.

FAQs
Will we go to Bridal Veil Falls or Tonsina Point?
Your guide selects the destination on the day of your trip based on weather, tides, and conditions. Both are excellent — Bridal Veil Falls is dramatic and up-close, with the falls tumbling directly into the sea, while Tonsina Landing Beach offers a beautiful walk through old-growth Chugach rainforest. Whichever your guide chooses, you'll have a memorable morning or evening on the water.
Is this trip good for beginners and kids?
Yes — this is one of the most beginner-friendly tours available, launching directly from the beach with no water taxi required. The paddling is easy and follows a sheltered coastline. Children ages 8 and up are welcome, and the relatively short duration makes it a great option for families. The nature walk at the destination includes some uneven terrain, so appropriate footwear matters.
Does this trip launch from the beach or use a water taxi?
This trip launches directly from the beach at Miller's Landing — no water taxi required. You paddle straight from base, which makes for an especially smooth, low-fuss departure.
Which departure is better — morning or evening?
Both are wonderful and offer a genuinely different experience. The 7 a.m. departure typically has the calmest water and crisp early-morning air, with wildlife most active at the start of the day. The 7 p.m. evening departure often features glassy, mirror-like water and stunning golden light on the cliffs and forest — one of the most beautiful ways to spend a summer evening in Seward. Under Alaska's long summer daylight there's no concern about returning in the dark.
What wildlife might we see?
River otters, Dall's porpoises, harbor seals, bald eagles, and various coastal seabirds are all regularly spotted along this route. The thick Sitka spruce forest along the cliffs is prime eagle habitat. In season, keep an eye out for black bears near the forest edge and mountain goats on the cliff faces above.
How long is the nature walk?
The walk is short — your guide leads the group to either the waterfall or into the rainforest at Tonsina, then back to the boats. The terrain is uneven and can be slippery in wet conditions, so sturdy footwear is important.
