Description

2-Hour Kayak & Paddle Board Rentals - Boulder, Colorado

Season: May 9 - September 7
Looking for an immersive day on the water? Our 2-hour kayak and paddleboard rentals at Boulder Reservoir give you the time and freedom to fully explore this iconic Front Range destination. With expansive open water, sandy beaches, and stunning mountain views, Boulder Reservoir is one of the best places for paddling near Boulder.
These Boulder Reservoir rentals are a great option if you don’t have a small craft permit. Since bringing your own paddleboard or kayak requires a permit that typically sells out early, renting on-site is the easiest way to get on the water without planning months in advance.
These rentals are perfect for those who want to paddle farther, relax on the water, or spend quality time with friends and family. Take your time exploring the shoreline, enjoying the sunshine, and soaking in views of the Flatirons and surrounding foothills. Whether you’re paddleboarding or kayaking, this is a laid-back way to experience Boulder Reservoir at your own pace.

Boulder Kayak Rentals & Paddle Board Options

  1. Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) – Great for standing, kneeling, or sitting back and relaxing. Kids under 15 ride free. Option to add a second adult to one board.
  2. Single Kayak – Stable, easy to paddle, and ideal for a solo escape or odd-numbered groups.
  3. Double Kayak (Tandem) – Team up and share the adventure - perfect for little ones to ride along!
  4. Canoe - Room for kids and gear, all while staying dry on the water.
  5. Party Board (Giant SUP) - Built for a crowd! Perfect for group paddles or floating lounges with your crew. They comfortably fit up to 8 adults, with room for additional small children.

Duration

  1. 2-Hour Rental
  2. Enjoy two full hours on the water, for plenty of time to paddle across the lake, explore the shoreline, relax in the sun, and soak in the mountain views. Don't quite need a full two hours? Check out our 1-hour rental here.
  3. Season: May 9 - September 7

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Rocky Mountain Paddleboard

FAQs

Do I need prior experience to rent a kayak or paddleboard at Boulder Reservoir?

Not at all! Our Boulder kayak rental and paddleboarding options are beginner-friendly. You’ll receive a full safety briefing, paddle instruction, and tips for navigating the calm waters of Boulder Reservoir, so you can enjoy your day on the water with confidence.

Can kids join the paddleboarding or kayaking experience?

Yes! Kids are welcome. Ages 2–5 must ride with a parent, ages 6–11 can paddle their own board or kayak with adult supervision, and ages 12–17 can paddle independently with a signed waiver. Our Lake Georgetown kayak rentals include appropriately sized paddles and life jackets for kids.

Is there a day of the week that's best to visit Boulder Reservoir?

If you're considering renting a kayak or paddleboard in Boulder, we highly recommend visiting midweek. Midweek rentals are more affordable, and you'll have a less-crowded, more tranquil experience on the lake.

Do I need to reserve in advance?

Yes, we highly recommend reserving in advance to ensure availability for your preferred watercraft. Additionally, prices are 10-20% more affordable online!

Do I need to pay a park entry fee at Boulder Reservoir?

Yes, Boulder Reservoir requires an entry fee. It's typically between $12-$30 depending on the number of people in your vehicle. For current fees, see Boulder Reservoir's website here.

Are there restrooms available?

Restrooms are conveniently located at the back of our shop (because sometimes, nature calls before you hit the water!)

What if the weather is bad?

We totally get that weather can be unpredictable! If the conditions aren’t great, we’re happy to reschedule or hook you up with a raincheck to use anytime.

What kind of weather would cause a cancellation?

Safety is our top priority! A couple of quick rules: If there’s lightning nearby (or on the way) or if winds hit 15+ MPH, it’s a no-go.

Since Colorado’s weather changes fast, we do 30-minute weather holds and reassess after that. We’ll always keep you in the loop!

Are the rentals guided?

Our rentals are self guided. Our staff are always happy to answer any questions or give tips before you depart!

Can I bring my dog?

Although we love your dog, they are not allowed in the park from May 15 to Labor Day.
