Where to Ride

Mud Creek Trail

The 3-mile Mud Creek Trail Loop offers a beginner-friendly mountain biking route located about a mile south of Big Sky off of U.S. Highway 191. The Michener Creek Trails quickly gained traction and popularity since being built by Terraflow Trail Systems in 2019 through private funders. The trails came under the Big Sky Community Organization trail system in May of 2021 thanks to the help of the Blackfoot Hills Property Owners Association and at that point the trails reverted to their historical name of Mud Creek. The Mud Creek Trail loop is 3 miles in length and climbs about 450 feet in the first 1.5 miles, providing an opportunity to get your blood pumping a bit before the fast and flowy descent with berms and terrain features to enhance the ride. The trail should be ridden counter-clockwise and features a beginner-friendly climb and the descent is in the intermediate range. For those beginners that are nervous about the descent they can return the way they came up on the climbing trail. Hikers are welcome on the climbing trail but should steer clear of hiking on the descending trail for everyone’s safety. There is signage at the 1.5-mile mark to indicate where the trail changes from two-way traffic to recommended downhill use only.

Crail Ranch Trail

A leisurely path that traces the historic Crail Ranch Meadow. Learn more about Big Sky’s history by visiting the Crail Ranch Homestead Museum. Take a step back in time on the Crail Ranch Trail, named after Big Sky’s original settlers. This 1.3-mile trail provides a leisurely walk, run or bike through the historic Crail Ranch meadow. Starting from the trailhead at the Big Sky Community Park, walkers, runners and bikers will head west on a wide gravel trail. Shortly after departing from the park, the trail crosses Little Coyote Road and picks up again at Spotted Elk Road. The trail crosses one small bridge and meanders between both homes and the Big Sky Resort golf course, keeping Lone Mountain in view throughout. Most individuals walk, run or bike the trail out and back for 2.6 miles total, but you can also utilize the trail to travel from the east end of the meadow to the west end, or vice versa. Although this trail is located in a more residential area of Big Sky, it still provides excellent views, wildlife sightings and a serene environment. BSCO encourages you to detour about 100 yards south on Spotted Elk Road to visit the historic Crail Ranch for a walking history tour of the valley or a tour of the homestead museum itself. Through July and August, Crail Ranch is open and Sundays from 12-3 p.m.

Mountain to Meadow Trail

Mountain to Meadow can be accessed from Big Sky Resort property near the base of the resort. Mountain to Meadow is a highly rated 4 mile popular blue singletrack scenic trail located near Big Sky Montana. This mountain bike primary trail can be used downhill primary and has a moderate overall physical rating. On average it takes 27 minutes to complete this trail. For more trail info click here.

FAQs

What does the damage waiver include?

Our optional damage waiver is available and covers damage to the equipment caused by normal wear and tear incurred while riding or during a crash. It does NOT cover damage due to negligence, theft, or loss of your equipment. If a bike is returned with considerable damage outside of normal wear and tear, you will be charged for the minimum fee for the repair or replacement of the equipment or parts.

Is the credit card charged right away when reserving?

The credit card is used only for reservation purposes with an authorization and is not charged until your rental is completed. We require a credit card to hold your reservation. Your card will then be charged within 24 hours of your delivery. You can make any adjustments or additions throughout the reservation period and our Reservation Office will adjust your billing accordingly – no need to run your card multiple times! Once you’ve wrapped up your trip, we’ll email you a final receipt to the email on file.

Can I return my equipment early?

You must notify Black Tie ASAP if you wish to return your equipment prior to your pre-arranged return date. Equipment must be returned by 6:00 p.m. the evening prior to your requested refund date in order to be eligible for a refund for the following day. Same day refund requests are not available. This allows our team time to process the equipment so it can be re-rented. We do not offer refunds for unused days within your rental period.

Is there a weight limit for the e-bikes?

The Trek Townie Go! has a maximum total weight limit (combined weight of bicycle, rider, and cargo) of 300 pounds (136 kg).
