What to Bring / Wear

Be sure to come prepared for your day of biking in Breckenridge. Pack a backpack with plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and snacks. A rain jacket is always suggested for afternoon showers as well – especially as we get into the dog days of summer. Don’t forget your wallet in case you want to swing by one of the many restaurants for lunch!

When mountain biking, If it’s your first time out, elbow pads and knee pads wouldn’t hurt to wear. Those would have to be purchased prior to your day of rental. If you aren’t keen on the idea of buying brand new gear for a day on the trails, the best thing you can do is wear long sleeves and longer pants that cover your elbows and knees in case of a wipeout.

Gloves are another item that come in handy when biking. They prevent your palms for slipping off your hand grips and will protect your hands if you fall.

Tall socks are a must as well to protect your ankles from any brush you may cruise through along the w

FAQ

Is there early pick-up or late drop-off options for bike rentals?

No, we do not offer early pick-up for bike rentals. Bikes can be picked up anytime after 9am on the first day of the reservation and must be returned by 5pm on the last day of the reservation to avoid late fees or an extra day charge.

What biking gear will be available for purchase at your shop?

Though we don’t have biking attire or shoes available for purchase, we do have sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottles, and power bars you can buy to keep you fueled and pedaling all day.

What is the difference between hardtail and full suspension mountain bikes?

The difference between the two is a full-suspension bike has both front and rear shocks, whereas a hardtail does not have a rear shock. There are pros and cons to both. Pros of the hardtail are that it’s usually lighter weight than a full suspension, making pedaling and climbing hills fast and efficient. These are also great for endurance terrain due to the support provided by the hardtail.

Full suspensions are optimal for easing through rough, bumpy and/or tricky terrain. The extra rear suspension allows the rider to “float” more easily over obstacles without absorbing the shock in your back. You’ll want to choose a full-suspension bike for more advanced trails and terrain, including downhill tracks and courses around Breckenridge.

Do your mountain bike rentals have flat pedals or clip-ins?

The bikes Breckenridge Ski & Sport have for rent are equipped with flat pedals. Be sure to wear mountain biking shoes or shoes with a sturdy base for optimal performance on the trails.

How fast can the e-bikes go and do they have a throttle?

The E-Bikes available at Breckenridge Ski & Sport have pedal assistance of up to 20 mph. Our e-bikes are considered Class 1, so there is not a throttle on these models.

Are e-bikes allowed at Breckenridge Ski Resort?

Although Class 1 e-bikes are permitted at the ski resort bike park, our e-bikes are recreational "townie" bikes, which are not appropriate for the trails. If you wish to ride at the park, we recommend a downhill full-suspension bike.

What is the weather usually like?

In true Colorado fashion, there is a crisp chill in the air until mid-morning. By noon you may be baking in the warm sunshine and then experience a rain shower or two a few hours later. Be prepared for any sort of weather situation and bring layers in your backpack so you aren’t stuck in uncomfortable attire on your outing.
