Duration
- 2-hour rentals and all-day rentals available; bikes must be returned by closing time (hours vary by season — confirm at check-in)
- Overnight rentals available for an additional fee of $25 per bike; bikes kept overnight must be stored indoors — never locked outside, as they will be stolen
Location of Rental Pickup
2661 Taylor Street, San Francisco, CA 94133 — located at Fisherman's Wharf between North Point and Beach Street, directly on the waterfront bike path.
The Golden Gate Bridge is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) from the shop, a 30–40 minute ride on a standard city bike or 20–25 minutes on an e-bike. Restrooms are available at the shop. There are multiple paid parking garages and metered street parking throughout the Fisherman's Wharf area; parking is not validated. The "F Market & Wharves" historic streetcar stops one block away at Taylor Street.

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Bay City Bike
FAQs
What bike should I choose?
Choosing a bike depends on the type of ride you are looking for. The most popular bike for casual, round-the-bay trail touring is the comfort hybrid. The second most popular bike is the comfort mountain. For advanced rides up to Mt. Tamalpais a performance bike is recommended, while riding through the Marin Headlands might require a MTB. We are happy to accommodate a bike change from your original reservation if you later decide to select a different style bike.
What is included with my bike rental?
Helmets, front camera bags, bells, maps & map holders, water bottle holders, locks, and detailed map assistance are included with your rentals! Our higher-end "performance bikes" come with tube, pump and tools to fix flats so that you're prepared to go long distances.
Can you rent from one location and return it to another?
Yes, you can pick-up a bike rental at one location and drop-off at a different one. We charge a $10 restocking fee; many people ride from our Golden Gate Park location to Fisherman’s Wharf and vice versa.
What happens if something goes wrong with the bike during my rental?
If you experience any issues during your bike rental period, we have an emergency hotline.
We have young children, can they do these rides?
All kids have different riding skill levels. The good news is we have something for everyone! The baby seat can fit a six-month-old up to a sturdy toddler while the trailer is good for carrying 1-2 toddlers and their gear. Adults can pair up with a child, via tag-a-long or tandem bicycle: both are great for the budding cyclist who pedals only when inclined, but still feels the pride of the ride!
What ride would you recommend for me?
We recommend four favorite rides: Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, the former extended from Sausalito to Tiburon, City Coast and Parks, and exploring the Marin Headlands (can include Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais, Conzelman Loop & more). Recommendations are based on riding ability, distance, and time.
The most popular route, suitable for everyone- beginner: children & those who do not regularly ride- is Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Continuing onto Tiburon is also an easy ride but a farther distance. For advanced riders, we recommend heading up toward the Marin Headlands or Mt. Tamalpais. Please consult our staff during checkout to determine the best ride for your day of rental.
Is a helmet included with my rental?
Absolutely! California helmet law is mandatory under age 18.
Do we need to purchase ferry tickets?
Ferry tickets are available for purchase at our shop counters, and are recommended to save time at boarding. That said, tickets can always be purchased on the boat in either Sausalito or Tiburon.
I want to bring my own pedals. Can you put them on for me?
Absolutely- please note we change pedals on the performance bikes only. At checkout, please select the option to bring your own, and we'll put them on for you; the service is free.
Do you have SPDs?
Yes, we have SPDs available- and other pedal types- for all the performance bikes ONLY. We mount them (as noted, you may also bring your own pedals) for Performance bikes only: Escape/ Rapid; Road; and Dual Suspension Mountain bikes. You can request them in the “comments” box on the reservation page at no extra charge. Other pedal types include Look and Look Keo.
What will the weather be like?
Weather in San Francisco can vary from neighborhood to neighborhood! Weather can be sunny one minute then foggy the next- and it’s almost always sunny and ten degrees warmer in Sausalito! We always recommend layers: dress comfortably enough for your bike ride but also consider the variations in our weather. Also, the bikes have rear racks & Bungees to strap down any extra layers. Ponchos for rainy weather are available for purchase at our shops.
What is your most popular ride?
Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. You can even ride on the Golden Gate Bridge, which has wide bike paths on both sides!
How do people get back from Sausalito?
Most people ferry as the 2 mile downhill into Sausalito from the Golden Gate Bridge is uphill on the way out!
Where do I store the bikes if keeping them overnight?
Do not lock bikes up outside, as they are very likely to get stolen. Bikes kept overnight should be stored indoors-most hotels do offer complimentary bike storage. Check with your concierge!
Do you offer pickup from hotels?
We can offer hotel pick-up and delivery- after reserving online, please call for rates.
Where can I park my vehicle?
There are many garages and parking lots throughout Fisherman’s Wharf. Parking costs vary by garage. There is also metered parking throughout the Wharf.
Do you validate parking?
We do not validate parking.
