Description

Ride Maui’s Open Ranchlands with a Little Electric Boost!

Get your first taste of mountain biking without worrying about intimidating trails, steep climbs, or technical obstacles. This beginner-friendly e-mountain bike adventure takes you onto a private Maui ranch on the lower slopes of Haleakalā, where wide dirt roads, rolling pastures, forested sections, and enormous island views create the perfect playground for an approachable off-road ride.

Your adventure begins with a short 4x4 ride to the trailhead, taking you farther into the ranch before it's time to hop on your electric mountain bike. From there, you'll follow smooth dirt roads across open pastureland and gentle rolling terrain while the bike's electric assist helps take the sting out of the hills. Instead of concentrating on roots, rocks, and technical features, you can settle into the ride, build confidence on the bike, and actually enjoy the landscape around you.

And there's plenty to look at. As you move across the ranch, Haleakalā rises above you while sweeping views open toward Maui's coastline and the Pacific below. Ride past valley overlooks, slip into shaded pockets of forest, and keep watch for wild axis deer grazing across the surrounding ranchland. Your guide builds in plenty of opportunities to stop, catch your breath, take photos, and simply appreciate being somewhere most Maui visitors never get to explore.

It's mountain biking without the pressure: off-road terrain, electric assistance, private ranch access, and spectacular Maui scenery wrapped into one relaxed adventure. For first-time mountain bikers—or anyone who wants the fun of riding Maui's backcountry without tackling technical singletrack—this is an incredible way to trade the beach for a few hours on two wheels.

FAQs

Who is this tour good for?

The Experience Tour is ideal for:

  • Beginners
  • Guests who bike infrequently
  • Riders who want a calm, non-technical outdoor experience
  • Families and teens (13+)
  • Couples and honeymooners looking for a scenic adventure
  • Guests who prefer a leisurely pace with beautiful views
  • Anyone who wants to enjoy Maui’s nature without challenging terrain

I’ve never used an e-bike — is that okay?

Yes!

We give you a full orientation before the ride.

The pedal assist is intuitive, and most riders feel confident within minutes.

Do I need mountain biking experience?

As long as you know how to ride a bicycle, you are good to go.

Our Experience tour is beginner-friendly and paced for comfort.

Whether it’s your first ride or you're an experienced cyclist, you’ll enjoy a safe and scenic adventure.

How much does the electric motor help?

Quite a bit! The electric pedal assist gives you extra power while you pedal, making hills and longer stretches considerably easier than they would be on a traditional mountain bike. You’ll still be actively riding and pedaling, but the motor helps take much of the effort out of the climbs so you can focus more on the scenery and experience.

Is this a difficult or technical mountain bike ride?

This is intended to be a beginner-friendly off-road ride, with smooth dirt roads, gentle rolling hills, and non-technical terrain. You won't be tackling the type of steep drops, jumps, rock gardens, or challenging singletrack associated with more advanced mountain biking. However, you'll still be riding outdoors on natural surfaces, so expect some bumps, loose dirt, and changing trail conditions.

What wildlife might we see on the ranch?

Keep an eye out for axis deer, which roam parts of Maui and may be seen grazing across the ranchland during your ride. You may also encounter birds and other wildlife along the route. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but riding through private ranch country gives you a very different perspective of Maui than you'll experience around the island's beaches and resort areas.

What makes riding on a private Maui ranch special?

The private ranch setting gives you access to landscapes that most Maui visitors never get to explore. Instead of riding alongside busy roads or through developed areas, you'll travel across open pastures, forested sections, and scenic overlooks on the lower slopes of Haleakalā. Along the way, you'll get expansive views of the volcano, valleys, Maui's coastline, and the Pacific while experiencing the island's Upcountry ranching landscape from two wheels.

What is a E-mountain bike?

An electric mountain bike (eMTB) features a pedal-assist motor that helps you ride farther and climb hills more easily.

It’s perfect for exploring Maui’s varied terrain without overexerting yourself.

No thruttle on this bikes, top of the line bosh and shimano motors. Full size range according to your height available. Flat pedals. Close toe tennis shoes are recommended.

The bikes are full front and read suspensions, setup with plenty of gears for going uphills.

What if I don’t feel comfortable riding a section of the trail?

Your comfort and enjoyment are our top priorities.

Our tours are designed for discovery, not competition, and there is never any pressure to ride beyond your limits.

Should you encounter a section of trail that feels challenging, you are always welcome to walk your bike through — it’s a perfectly normal part of the experience.

The goal is to enjoy Maui’s landscapes at your own pace, with confidence and peace of mind.

Is it safe?

Absolutely.

Our guides are CPR-certified and experienced.

We review safety instructions and equipment with all riders before the tour begins.
