Arches Territory Ocean Kayak Tour – Samuel Boardman Scenic Coast Adventure

Get ready for one of the most visually stunning paddle experiences on the Oregon Coast. This unique tour takes you deep into the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor, launching from a hidden cove accessible only by foot. After a short but strenuous hike down with your inflatable kayak, you’ll paddle into the heart of the Arches Territory—a dramatic stretch of coastline famous for its towering sea stacks, natural arches, and spruce-covered islands.
From the very first stroke, you're immersed in Oregon’s wild beauty. You'll explore sea caves, remote coves only reachable by water, and kelp forests often visited by curious harbor seals and dotted with a wide variety of seabirds. This isn’t just a kayak tour—it’s a raw and unforgettable way to experience the Southern Oregon coast.
Need a little help with the gear? Choose our Assisted Preparation Option for an additional $30 per boat, and we’ll haul your equipment to and from the beach—saving your energy for the fun part.

FAQs

How challenging is this trip?

It includes a steep hike in and out of a remote cove while carrying gear, followed by a paddle in open ocean conditions. Participants should be fit, comfortable with hiking on uneven terrain, and confident paddling in dynamic coastal waters.

The hike in while carrying your gear can be tough for some people. The trail is steep and there are obstacles like roots and rocks to navigate. Tandem kayaks are 30 pounds and single kayaks are 19 pounds. Consider our Assisted Preparation option if you're not up for hauling your gear.

Do I need prior kayaking experience?

Some prior kayaking experience is strongly recommended, especially in ocean or choppy conditions. This is not an ideal trip for first-time paddlers.

What kind of wildlife might we see?

This area is rich with coastal wildlife. You might see harbor seals, pelicans, cormorants, black oystercatchers, and other seabirds. Keep your eyes peeled for sea stars, crabs, and fish in the kelp forests below your kayak.

How many rock arch formations will we see?

Depending on the tides and ocean conditions, you could see and paddle through more than 10 arches on this tour.

Why do we use inflatable kayaks and not sea kayaks?

We use inflatables because of the difficult hike into the location. Inflatables are lighter and way easier to carry than hard plastic kayaks.

Will we be required to wear wetsuits?

Yes, everyone will have to wear wetsuits and booties, but we provide them for you!

Will I get wet?

Yes, you’ll likely get splashed during the paddle. Wetsuits are provided and required for this tour to keep you warm and comfortable.

Should I bring my camera?

It's best to leave the camera behind unless it is rated for use in and around water. Our guides will be sure to snap some photos of you while you’re out on your tour as well.

Should I tip my guide?

Tipping is always appreciated and a great way to recognize your guide’s hard work. Guiding is part of the service industry, and if your guide provides a safe, informative, and enjoyable experience, a tip is a meaningful way to say thank you.
