Private Advanced Snowshoe Tour – Glen Alps Challenge
For the adventurous traveler ready to take snowshoeing to the next level, this advanced tour through the Glen Alps in Chugach State Park promises a thrilling deep dive into Alaska’s backcountry beauty. After a brief refresher on snowshoeing technique, you’ll set out across rolling terrain, following the snow-packed trail toward South Fork Campbell Creek and the expansive glaciated valley beyond. Towering peaks, alpine forests, and endless snowfields surround you as your guide shares insight into the area’s unique ecology and history.
This extended trek offers both challenge and reward—expect uphill climbs, sweeping views over the Anchorage Bowl and Cook Inlet, and plenty of opportunities for wildlife sightings. You may spot moose, lynx, snowshoe hares, or birds along the way. With your private guide pacing the tour to your group’s abilities, you’ll have time to pause for photos, enjoy your provided snack, and fully immerse yourself in Alaska’s wintry grandeur.
Designed for active adventurers in good physical condition, this is a snowshoeing experience that goes beyond the ordinary—invigorating, scenic, and unforgettable. FAQs
What if there is not enough snow accumulation to go snowshoeing?
If there is not enough snow accumulation to go snowshoeing, we will go winter hiking, or you can opt for a full refund. This is to be determined by the morning of your tour.
What’s the difference between the Beginner and Advanced Snowshoe Tours?
The Beginner Snowshoe Tour focuses on gentle terrain, perfect for first-timers or those looking for a relaxed pace with plenty of photo stops and nature interpretation. The Advanced Snowshoe Tour includes longer distances, steeper climbs, and deeper snow—ideal if you’re active and want more of a workout while exploring more remote winter landscapes.
What kind of snowshoes do you provide?
We provide high-quality modern aluminum-frame snowshoes suitable for Alaska’s varied winter terrain, along with adjustable trekking poles for balance and support. If you already own snowshoes, feel free to bring them—just let us know in advance so we can make sure they’re appropriate for the terrain.
Do I need special boots for snowshoeing?
Yes, you’ll need insulated, waterproof winter boots with good traction. Avoid lightweight hiking shoes or sneakers—they’ll quickly get wet and cold.
Will I see wildlife?
While wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed, it’s common to see moose, snowshoe hares, and a variety of winter birds on our routes. Your guide will also point out tracks and signs of other animals that stay active through winter, like lynx or red fox.
Can I bring my own snacks or thermos?
Definitely. We provide local Alaskan trail snacks, but you’re welcome to bring your own food, hot drinks, or thermos for the trip—just make sure containers are leak-proof and easy to carry.
What food is included on tours?
We proudly serve locally made Alaskan products from Kat’s Epic Trail Bites, Alaska Sausage and Seafood, and Elevated Oats.
Are firearms allowed?
No. Go Hike Alaska has a strict no-firearms policy, even for licensed carriers. This applies to all tours and transportation. Our guides are trained in bear safety and non-lethal deterrence methods such as bear spray to ensure everyone’s safety in the field.
Can I bring my pet?
We love animals, but pets are not permitted on any Go Hike Alaska tours. Service animals are welcome; however, some trails may be too strenuous for them. Please contact us ahead of time if you’re unsure about the difficulty level or conditions.
Can I bring a drone?
No. Drone usage is prohibited under Chugach State Park regulations. We ask all guests to leave drones behind to preserve the natural experience for everyone.
