Description

AIARE Avalanche Rescue + Wilderness First Aid Combo Course

This three-day combination course combines the AIARE Avalanche Rescue curriculum with a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification designed specifically for winter backcountry users. Offered in partnership with Desert Mountain Medicine, the program goes beyond standard avalanche training by preparing you to respond effectively not only to avalanche incidents, but to any medical emergency that can occur miles from help.
The first day focuses on avalanche rescue — learning how to use your beacon, shovel, and probe efficiently, running realistic search and recovery scenarios, and developing a plan for continuing practice. The next two days cover wilderness medical skills in cold environments. You’ll learn how to assess and treat traumatic injuries, manage hypothermia and frostbite, and provide patient care when professional help is delayed. Instructors combine expertise from emergency medicine, ski patrol, and mountain guiding to create a hands-on, scenario-driven learning experience that builds confidence and competence in the field.
Whether you’re a recreational backcountry skier, splitboarder, or aspiring professional, this course offers practical training that ties together avalanche response and wilderness medicine—two critical skill sets for safe, self-sufficient winter travel.

3 Days Total
