5-Hour Greenville E-Bike Rental — Explore the Swamp Rabbit Trail
Step out the shop door and you're on the Swamp Rabbit Trail — and with five hours, you have time to ride it properly. The full trail runs 19.9 miles (32 km) from Hampton Station all the way north to Travelers Rest, and five hours lets you do the complete run at a leisurely pace with stops, or combine the northern Travelers Rest route with a southern push through downtown Greenville and out to Cleveland Park, Legacy Park, and the Verdae corridor's newer trail segments. This is the rental window for riders who want to see it all.
The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 19.9-mile (32 km) paved multi-use trail that follows the bed of a former railroad through the heart of Greenville County — weaving through a canopy of trees, passing vibrant neighborhoods, parks, breweries, and restaurants, before arriving in the charming small town of Travelers Rest at the northern end. Hampton Station, where the shop is located, sits directly on the trail's Orange Line spur, making it one of the most convenient trail access points in the city.
Staff will walk you through the controls, show you the map, and help you pick a route suited to your time and interests before you head out. Every rental comes fully equipped — bike lock, trunk bag, water bottle cage, left-hand mirror, map, and helmet — so everything you need is already on the bike.

FAQs
Where can I ride in 5 hours from the shop?
Five hours opens up the complete Swamp Rabbit Trail experience. The classic 5-hour route heads north to Travelers Rest (8 miles / 13 km), stops for brunch or coffee at one of TR's excellent spots, swings through Furman University to loop Swan Lake on the return, and still has time for a stop at Falls Park and Liberty Bridge before returning to Hampton Station. For riders who want to explore the southern trail segments, the newer Verdae corridor connects Cleveland Park to Legacy Park — a beautiful 20-acre space inspired by Frederick Law Olmstead's design for Central Park — and continues past Holland Park, breweries, and public art before looping back. Staff will help you plan a route that covers the highlights you care most about.
Are there good lunch spots along the trail?
Yes — Travelers Rest has several excellent restaurants and cafes right on or near the trail. Downtown Greenville's West End is also full of great options accessible from the southern trail segment. Staff can recommend specific spots based on your route when you pick up your bike.
What models do you offer, and how do I know which is right for me?
The fleet includes five main models for individual riders plus family and cargo options. Staff will confirm the best fit at check-in based on your height and riding preference. Here's a quick guide:
- Interceptor (Cruiser Style Step-Thru) — The classic Pedego beach cruiser feel with a low step-thru frame. Comfortable, upright riding position. Great for most riders looking for an easy-on, easy-off option.
- Boomerang (Ultra Low-Step Cruiser) — The lowest step-over of the fleet, designed for maximum accessibility. Ideal for riders with limited mobility or those who prefer the easiest possible mounting.
- Avenue (Hybrid Style City E-Bike) — A more traditional bicycle geometry with a slightly forward lean. Good for riders who prefer a sportier feel or faster cadence. Note: the Burley Kazoo trailercycle is only compatible with the Avenue.
- Trail Tracker (26" Fat Tire Off-Road) — Wide, grippy tires suited for the Swamp Rabbit Trail's mix of surfaces, or for riders who simply prefer a more planted feel. The go-to for riders who want the most stable, confident ride on varied terrain.
- Bunch Bike (Front Cargo E-Bike) — A purpose-built electric cargo bike with a large front compartment for children, a large dog, or an adult passenger. See the Bunch Bike listing for full details.
What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?
Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle for power without pedaling. On the Swamp Rabbit Trail, that means hills feel flat, headwinds disappear, and you can cruise farther than you ever thought possible without breaking a sweat.
How far can I go on a single charge?
Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Swamp Rabbit Trail runs 19.9 miles (32 km) one way from Hampton Station to Travelers Rest — riders regularly complete the full out-and-back with battery to spare.
Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?
You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. The e-bike adds motor assistance but handling is the same — basic cycling skills are required. Staff will walk every renter through a thorough orientation before you head out, including a complete tutorial on the controls, pedal assist levels, and throttle.
Are helmets required?
Yes — helmets are included with every rental and tour. South Carolina law requires riders under 16 to wear a helmet; helmets are required for all riders by shop policy regardless of age.
Do I need to be physically fit?
The Swamp Rabbit Trail is predominantly flat and paved — it follows a former railroad bed and is accessible to riders of all fitness levels. Multiple reviewers in their 60s and 70s describe the experience as effortless. The e-bike's pedal-assist handles any gentle inclines without effort.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! The Burley Tail Wagon pet trailer attaches to any Pedego rental bike and carries pets up to 75 lbs (34 kg). The Bunch Bike cargo e-bike can also carry one large dog in its front cargo compartment. Add either option at checkout when booking.
What is the weather policy?
Rentals and tours go forward in all but severe weather. Greenville has warm, humid summers — morning start times are highly recommended from June through September. Contact the shop directly if severe weather is forecast on your day.
Is parking available at the shop?
Yes — free parking is available on-site at Hampton Station.
Do I need to book in advance?
Booking in advance is recommended, especially for weekends, tours, and family configurations. The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM; closed Monday.
What time does the shop open and close?
Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. Closed Monday. All bikes must be returned by closing time.
