Shell Key Kayak & Snorkel Tour
The 50/50 Shell Key Kayak Tour is 50% kayaking, 50% nature, and 100% ideal for people who want it all. You get two expert guides who specialize in guided and affordable eco kayak adventures (and are also the owners, Scott & Karissa). We will kayak from Tierra Verde public launch site to Shell Key Preserve, including the mangrove tunnels (tide permitting). We try to time your adventure just right to give you the best possible chance at seeing dolphins, manatees, and other wildlife who only visit the area at certain times. You also will have time to explore the island of Shell Key, whether that means shelling, swimming, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the view. It’s truly the best of both worlds!
Keep in mind our tours take place in a shallow saltwater preserve, which is part of the intracoastal waterway. We do not kayak in the open gulf. We are the only company that uses stable, comfortable sit-inside recreational touring kayaks with backrests, which makes for a better overall experience. There are no alligators, and most of the water is knee to waist-deep; perfect for both beginners and experts.

What to Bring
We recommend bringing water, sunscreen or protective clothing/hat, a towel, sunglasses, and a Ziploc bag to keep your personal items & phone dry. Please read our FAQ for more information on how to be prepared for your tour.

FAQs
Can I use a paddle board (SUP) on your tours?
Our tours are exclusively conducted using the kayaks we provide, and paddle boards (SUPs) are not permitted. While we understand the interest in paddle boarding, our guided tours are designed to offer the best experience in kayaks. We hope you’ll join us for an unforgettable adventure on the water!
Is it really $49?
Yes, it’s really just $49 per person. We enjoy making our tours affordable for everyone.
Is experience required?
No experience is necessary. Our tours are perfect for both first-timers and advanced kayakers. An easy to follow paddle instruction is provided.
What is provided on the tour?
We provide all necessary equipment, including kayak, paddle, life jacket, and signaling device.
What are the kayaks like?
All of our kayaks are high quality, comfortable, stable, sit inside kayaks with backrests. We have both tandem (double) and single kayaks. Our tandem kayaks hold a combined weight of 600 pounds and our single kayaks are suitable for guests up to 275 pounds.
What time is the tour?
Our tour times vary from day to day, depending on the tide.
Do I need a reservation?
Reservations are required. Reserve in advance to secure your spot. If we must cancel your tour due to bad weather, you will have the option to reschedule or immediately receive a full refund.
Are there restrooms?
There are no restrooms at the launch site or on the island.
Will I get wet?
Expect to get wet from the knees down as you get into and out of the kayak. We recommend sandals, flip flops, or water shoes that can either be easily removed or get wet.
Is the sun strong?
Please make plans to protect yourself from overexposure to the sun. Sunscreen or protective clothing is highly recommended. Remember, you can burn even on a cloudy day.
Will my stuff stay dry?
Your belongings are your responsibility. You will be on the water. Some of the kayaks do have storage areas, but we do not guarantee them to be waterproof. We recommend placing items such as cell phones and cameras in water-proof containers or Ziploc storage bags for protection.
Where is the launch?
We launch from a public launch site in Tierra Verde. A map and directions is included with your reservation confirmation.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that sometimes life happens. If you find that you cannot keep your reservation, we ask that you notify us a minimum of 24 hours in advance. We are a small, family-owned business. Giving us proper notice of a cancellation gives us an opportunity to offer your seat to other customers. This not only gives others the chance to experience a tour, but helps us keep our prices low by keeping our tours full. If you do not show up for your tour and have not properly cancelled your reservation, we will charge your debit/credit card for the total cost of your reservation. If you can’t make it, just give us a call or text.
