FAQs
Why is the 4-hour rental recommended over the 2-hour?
The round-trip paddle to Blue Heart Springs takes about an hour. With a 2-hour rental, that leaves only a brief window at the cove. The 4-hour rental gives you roughly three hours to swim, relax on the shore, and explore without any time pressure — which is how most guests want to experience it.
What will I see on the paddle to Blue Heart Springs?
You'll launch from the private ramp and cross the Snake River toward Box Canyon, where brilliantly blue, spring-fed water pours into the river — a vivid preview of what's ahead. Continuing north, the canyon walls close in and the water grows progressively clearer and more turquoise until you arrive at the hidden cove of Blue Heart Springs. Wildlife sightings along the way commonly include pelicans, bald eagles, great blue herons, deer, and jumping fish.
Can I swim at Blue Heart Springs?
Yes! The spring water is a constant 54°F (12°C) year-round — refreshing on a hot summer day, but cold enough to be a shock. Wading in from the shoreline is recommended rather than jumping straight in, so you can return to shore easily if needed.
What is the best time to visit?
Sunny days make the turquoise color most vivid. Early morning launches on weekdays offer the quietest experience — the springs can get busy on summer weekends. Arriving at opening and launching as early as possible gives you the best chance of having the cove to yourself for a while.
What wildlife might I see?
American white pelicans, great blue herons, bald eagles, ospreys, deer, muskrats, and jumping fish are regularly spotted on this stretch of the Snake River. The crystal-clear water also lets you see native fish and the riverbed directly below your kayak or board.
What types of watercraft are available?
Single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and inflatable stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are all available. Single kayaks let each paddler set their own pace and have more storage space per person. Tandem kayaks are more stable and allow two paddlers to share the effort — great for pairs or a parent paddling with a child. Inflatable SUPs can be paddled standing, kneeling, or sitting, with fully adjustable paddles.
What are the weight limits?
Single kayaks: 360 lbs (163 kg). Tandem kayaks: 485 lbs (220 kg).
Do I need previous paddling experience?
No experience needed. The Snake River here is wide, calm, and slow-moving — ideal for first-timers and families. Staff will answer questions and provide guidance at check-in before you launch.
