Description

4-Hour Kayak & SUP Rental with Shuttle — Blue Heart Springs & Ritter Island, Idaho

See it all in one downstream paddle. This is the signature Snake River experience in southern Idaho — a 4.5-mile (7.2 km) journey with the river's current through Box Canyon, Blue Heart Springs, Lemmon Falls, and Ritter Island, finishing with a shuttle back to your vehicle.

You'll launch from the Blue Heart Kayaking main site and let the gentle current carry you downstream through a series of unforgettable highlights. First, the brilliant blue confluence of Box Canyon — where spring-fed water pours into the Snake River. Then the crown jewel: Blue Heart Springs, a turquoise cove tucked into the canyon walls that is accessible only by water. From there, the river continues past the cascading Lemmon Falls before reaching Ritter Island — a 160-acre island sanctuary within Thousand Springs State Park, flanked by natural springs and canyon waterfalls.
Because the route follows the river downstream, the paddle is accessible for most skill levels — the current does the bulk of the work. The most active section is circumnavigating Ritter Island, which can be shortened or skipped based on conditions and your group's preference. At the end of the route, you'll pull out at 1000 Springs Resort, where the shuttle returns you to Blue Heart Kayaking and your vehicle.
Wildlife along this corridor is exceptional — bald eagles, peregrine falcons, great blue herons, American white pelicans, deer, and otters are all regularly spotted. A map and route directions are provided at check-in.

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Blue Heart Kayaking

FAQs

What is the full route and what will I see?

You'll launch from Blue Heart Kayaking and paddle 4.5 miles (7.2 km) downstream. The route passes the crystal-blue Box Canyon confluence, the hidden turquoise cove of Blue Heart Springs (accessible only by water), the cascading Lemmon Falls, and around Ritter Island — a 160-acre island sanctuary within Thousand Springs State Park. The trip ends at 1000 Springs Resort, where the shuttle returns you to your car.

How difficult is the paddle?

Most of the route is downstream with the current, making it accessible for beginners and families. The section around Ritter Island requires more active paddling and can be affected by wind and seasonal water levels — it can be shortened or skipped at your discretion. A map and directions are provided at check-in.

Do I need to book the shuttle in advance?

Yes — shuttle reservations must be made at least one day in advance to ensure sufficient staffing. Same-day shuttle bookings cannot be guaranteed.

Where does the trip end and how does the shuttle work?

The paddle ends at 1000 Springs Resort, directly across the river from Ritter Island. The shuttle picks you up there and returns you to Blue Heart Kayaking where your vehicle is parked. Leave your car at the launch site — do not drive to the take-out.

Can I swim at Blue Heart Springs along the route?

Yes — the cove is a natural stop on the route. The water holds a constant 54°F (12°C) year-round. Wading in from the shoreline is recommended rather than jumping straight in, as the cold can be a shock.

Is this appropriate for children?

Yes — the downstream current keeps the effort manageable for most families. That said, this is a 4.5-mile (7.2 km), 4-hour outing, so consider your children's stamina and comfort level before booking. Younger or less confident paddlers may prefer starting with the shorter 2-hour or 4-hour rental. Children 14 and under must wear a life jacket at all times.

What wildlife might I see on this route?

This is one of the most wildlife-rich stretches of the Snake River in Idaho. Guests regularly spot bald eagles, peregrine falcons, great blue herons, American white pelicans, ospreys, deer, otters, and muskrats. The canyon walls and spring-fed waterfalls of the Thousand Springs corridor add to the experience throughout the route.

What are the weight limits for the equipment?

Single kayaks: 360 lbs (163 kg). Tandem kayaks: 485 lbs (220 kg).
