Description

4-Hour Greenville E-Bike Rental — Explore the Swamp Rabbit Trail

Step out the shop door and you're on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. With four hours, the full northern run to Travelers Rest and back is comfortably within reach — about 8 miles (13 km) each way along a shaded, paved greenway that winds through the Berea community past the Swamp Rabbit Station pocket park and out to the charming small town at the trail's northern end. Or ride south into downtown Greenville, through Unity Park, along the Reedy River to Falls Park, out to Cleveland Park and its zoo — and still have time to find a lunch spot before heading back. Four hours is the most popular duration for covering the trail's best highlights.

The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 19.9-mile (32 km) paved multi-use trail that follows the bed of a former railroad through the heart of Greenville County — weaving through a canopy of trees, passing vibrant neighborhoods, parks, breweries, and restaurants, before arriving in the charming small town of Travelers Rest at the northern end. Hampton Station, where the shop is located, sits directly on the trail's Orange Line spur, making it one of the most convenient trail access points in the city.

Staff will walk you through the controls, show you the map, and help you pick a route suited to your time and interests before you head out. Every rental comes fully equipped — bike lock, trunk bag, water bottle cage, left-hand mirror, map, and helmet — so everything you need is already on the bike.

FAQs

Where can I ride in 4 hours from the shop?

Four hours is the ideal window for the Swamp Rabbit Trail's headline run. Heading north, the trail passes through the Berea community's Swamp Rabbit Station pocket park — a former railroad heater car and public art stop — before continuing through tree tunnels to Travelers Rest, 8 miles (13 km) from the shop. Travelers Rest has excellent restaurants and cafes for a mid-ride stop. On the return, the trail can connect to Furman University for a loop around Swan Lake, famous for its black swans and photogenic clocktower. Heading south into downtown, four hours covers Unity Park, the Reedy River Greenway, Falls Park and Liberty Bridge, Cancer Survivors Park, and Cleveland Park with its public art and zoo. Staff will help you combine both directions or focus on one.

Can I ride all the way to Travelers Rest?

Yes — it's 8 miles (13 km) from Hampton Station to Travelers Rest, making for a 16-mile (26 km) round trip. Most riders complete it comfortably within the 4-hour window, especially with the e-bike's pedal-assist handling any effort. Travelers Rest has great spots for a break.

Are there restrooms along the trail?

Yes — restrooms are available at Cleveland Park along the southern route. Staff can point out additional facilities along your route at pickup.

What models do you offer, and how do I know which is right for me?

The fleet includes five main models for individual riders plus family and cargo options. Staff will confirm the best fit at check-in based on your height and riding preference. Here's a quick guide:

  • Interceptor (Cruiser Style Step-Thru) — The classic Pedego beach cruiser feel with a low step-thru frame. Comfortable, upright riding position. Great for most riders looking for an easy-on, easy-off option.
  • Boomerang (Ultra Low-Step Cruiser) — The lowest step-over of the fleet, designed for maximum accessibility. Ideal for riders with limited mobility or those who prefer the easiest possible mounting.
  • Avenue (Hybrid Style City E-Bike) — A more traditional bicycle geometry with a slightly forward lean. Good for riders who prefer a sportier feel or faster cadence. Note: the Burley Kazoo trailercycle is only compatible with the Avenue.
  • Trail Tracker (26" Fat Tire Off-Road) — Wide, grippy tires suited for the Swamp Rabbit Trail's mix of surfaces, or for riders who simply prefer a more planted feel. The go-to for riders who want the most stable, confident ride on varied terrain.
  • Bunch Bike (Front Cargo E-Bike) — A purpose-built electric cargo bike with a large front compartment for children, a large dog, or an adult passenger. See the Bunch Bike listing for full details.

What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?

Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle for power without pedaling. On the Swamp Rabbit Trail, that means hills feel flat, headwinds disappear, and you can cruise farther than you ever thought possible without breaking a sweat.

How far can I go on a single charge?

Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Swamp Rabbit Trail runs 19.9 miles (32 km) one way from Hampton Station to Travelers Rest — riders regularly complete the full out-and-back with battery to spare.

Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?

You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. The e-bike adds motor assistance but handling is the same — basic cycling skills are required. Staff will walk every renter through a thorough orientation before you head out, including a complete tutorial on the controls, pedal assist levels, and throttle.

Are helmets required?

Yes — helmets are included with every rental and tour. South Carolina law requires riders under 16 to wear a helmet; helmets are required for all riders by shop policy regardless of age.

Do I need to be physically fit?

The Swamp Rabbit Trail is predominantly flat and paved — it follows a former railroad bed and is accessible to riders of all fitness levels. Multiple reviewers in their 60s and 70s describe the experience as effortless. The e-bike's pedal-assist handles any gentle inclines without effort.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! The Burley Tail Wagon pet trailer attaches to any Pedego rental bike and carries pets up to 75 lbs (34 kg). The Bunch Bike cargo e-bike can also carry one large dog in its front cargo compartment. Add either option at checkout when booking.

What is the weather policy?

Rentals and tours go forward in all but severe weather. Greenville has warm, humid summers — morning start times are highly recommended from June through September. Contact the shop directly if severe weather is forecast on your day.

Is parking available at the shop?

Yes — free parking is available on-site at Hampton Station.

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advance is recommended, especially for weekends, tours, and family configurations. The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM; closed Monday.

What time does the shop open and close?

Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. Closed Monday. All bikes must be returned by closing time.
