Description

Cruise Kapalua’s Coast at Your Own Pace!

Hop on an e-bike and spend two hours exploring Kapalua at your own pace, where beautiful bays, white-sand beaches, and the West Maui Mountains create one of the island’s most scenic coastal settings. With electric pedal assist helping on the hills, you can cover more ground without turning your sightseeing ride into a workout—and because the experience is self-guided, you decide where to stop and how long to stay.

Cruise through the Kapalua area with opportunities to stop around Oneloa Bay, take in the coastal scenery, and ride near some of the area's well-known resorts and landmarks. Want to get off the bike for a bit? Park and explore a section of the Kapalua Coastal Trail on foot, or spend your time finding viewpoints and photo stops instead. There’s no group pace or guide moving you along, so the two hours are yours to shape.

It’s an easy way to trade the car for two wheels and experience Kapalua in the open air. Whether you're interested in beaches, photography, coastal scenery, or simply taking an e-bike for a spin, this short self-guided adventure gives you the freedom to ride, stop, explore, and enjoy West Maui on your own schedule.

FAQs

What can I see while riding around Kapalua?

Your self-guided ride can take you past some of Kapalua's best-known beaches, coastal viewpoints, resorts, and landmarks. Depending on the route you choose, highlights may include Dragon's Teeth at Makaluapuna Point, D.T. Fleming Beach Park, Oneloa Bay, Kapalua Resort, Kapalua Plantation Course, Honolua Store, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Montage Kapalua Bay, and access to the Kapalua Coastal Trail.

Because the experience is self-guided, you can work with the team before departure to plan a route around the places that interest you most.

Can I ride my e-bike on the Kapalua Coastal Trail?

No. The Kapalua Coastal Trail is a walking trail and bikes should not be ridden on it. If you'd like to explore part of the trail, find an appropriate place to park your e-bike, securely lock the bike and battery to a stationary object, and continue on foot. It's a great opportunity to add a short coastal walk and photo stop to your e-bike adventure.

What rules should I follow while riding my e-bike in Maui?

E-bikes follow the same basic rules of the road as bicycles. Ride on the right side of the road in the same direction as traffic, obey traffic lights, signs, and lane markings, and use hand signals when turning or stopping. When riding with others, travel single file rather than side-by-side.

Stay off sidewalks, golf course paths, and anywhere marked “No Bikes.” If you'll be riding around dusk or after dark, make sure your bike lights are turned on so you're easier for drivers and other road users to see.

Do I need previous e-bike experience?

No previous e-bike experience is required, but you do need to already know how to ride a bicycle confidently. Riders should be comfortable balancing, pedaling, braking, mounting and dismounting, and making controlled turns. Before you set off, you'll receive an orientation covering the e-bike controls and pedal-assist system so you can get comfortable with how everything works.

What is E-Bike Rescue, and what does it cover?

E-Bike Rescue is optional coverage that can be added before your ride for $10. It covers assistance for flat tires and electronic failures within a 7.5-mile (12 km) radius in West Maui.

Coverage does not extend north of Honolua Bay or south of Olowalu. Assistance outside the covered area may still be available for an additional fee based on distance. Running out of battery outside the West Maui boundaries is also not covered. If you'd like E-Bike Rescue, make sure to add it before beginning your ride.

How long does an e-bike battery last?

Battery range varies based on the bike, rider weight, terrain, gearing, and how much pedal assist you use. Typically, standard e-bikes can travel approximately 12–30 miles (19–48 km) per charge, while premium e-bikes may reach approximately 30–60 miles (48–97 km).

To conserve battery, use lower levels of pedal assist when you don't need the extra power and shift into an appropriate lower gear when climbing hills. If the battery does run out, you can still pedal and shift gears like a regular bicycle.
