Description
Get to Molokini Fast, Skip the Big Crowds & Spend More Time Snorkeling!
Want to snorkel Molokini Crater without spending half your day on a boat? This fast-paced, two-hour adventure is built to get you out to the crater, into the water, and back to Maui with plenty of your day still ahead. A high-powered adventure raft makes the crossing from Kīhei in less than 15 minutes under normal conditions, leaving more of your time for what you actually came for—snorkeling Molokini.
The later-morning departure has another advantage: you'll typically arrive after many of the larger morning tour boats have already departed. With more room around the crater, your crew can explore larger sections of the reef and select the best snorkeling area based on that day's wind, swell, and water conditions.
Once you're geared up, you'll have more than an hour of snorkeling time to explore Molokini's incredible volcanic landscape. Depending on conditions, you may snorkel the protected inside rim, drift along the outer reef, or even explore the dramatic backside of the crater. Along the outer rim, sections of reef rise to within just 2–3 feet (0.6–0.9 m) of the surface before suddenly dropping approximately 200 feet (61 m) into deep blue water. Drifting above that edge creates an almost flying sensation as the reef disappears beneath you.
If conditions allow a visit to the backside, the scenery becomes even more dramatic. Molokini's volcanic wall plunges approximately 300–400 feet (91–122 m) below the surface, creating enormous underwater views framed by towering rock walls, clear blue water, and shafts of sunlight. Tropical reef fish can be found throughout the crater, but it's Molokini's exceptional visibility and sheer volcanic topography that make snorkeling here unlike a typical coastal reef.
Snorkel gear and beverages are included, keeping the experience simple: board the raft, race out to Molokini, explore one of Hawaii's most famous snorkeling destinations, and be back with the rest of your Maui day still ahead of you. If conditions at Molokini are unsuitable, the captain may select a safer shoreline snorkeling location instead.

FAQs
Why does this tour depart later than the others?
The later start lets you sleep in while still reaching Molokini after most of the bigger tour boats have left, which typically means a quieter, less crowded crater to snorkel.
Do we always make it to Molokini on this tour?
Guests almost always make it to Molokini on this trip, but if ocean conditions aren't favorable that day, a shoreline snorkel alternate may be selected instead.
Which part of Molokini will we snorkel?
Depending on conditions, your guides may choose the inside rim, the outer reef, or the backside of the crater, each offering a different underwater landscape.
Are pets or service animals allowed on board?
Service animals cannot be accommodated on these tours, and pets are not permitted onboard.
Do I need previous snorkeling experience?
No previous experience is required. Your guides give a safety and gear briefing before anyone gets in the water, and snorkel gear is fitted for you at the start of the trip.
What sunscreen should I use?
Reef-safe, non-nano mineral sunscreen is recommended. Please avoid sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, or parabens, as these chemicals can harm coral reefs.
Can I snorkel with a beard or mustache, or wear glasses or contacts?
A beard or mustache can make it harder for a snorkel mask to form a tight seal — petroleum jelly or chapstick along the mustache line can help. Glasses can't be worn under a snorkel mask, but contacts work well; if you have a prescription mask of your own, feel free to bring it.
Why is Molokini Crater such a famous snorkeling destination?
Molokini is a partially submerged volcanic crater located offshore from South Maui. Its protected shape, clear ocean water, and dramatic underwater topography have made it one of Hawaii's best-known snorkeling destinations. Depending on conditions, this tour may explore the inside rim, outer reef, and even the backside of Molokini. One of the highlights is drifting along the outer reef and looking over an underwater drop-off of approximately 200 feet (61 m).
