Description

Two Hour Kayak & SUP Rental - Trinidad Lake, CO

Get out on Trinidad Lake for a couple of hours — plenty of time to explore the shoreline, do some birdwatching from the water, or just relax and maybe catch a fish. Choose a single sit-in kayak, a sit-on-top kayak (a good option if you're fishing), a stand-up paddleboard, or a tandem kayak to share with a partner.

Trinidad Lake sits in a state park at the base of the Culebra Range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, ringed by piñon-juniper forest and sandstone bluffs that catch dramatic color at sunrise and sunset. Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkeys, or waterfowl like pelicans and herons along the shoreline as you paddle — the lake is also known for good fishing, if you'd rather cast a line than just explore.

FAQs

Where is Trinidad Lake State Park relative to nearby cities?

The park sits about 4–5 miles west of Trinidad, CO on Highway 12, just off I-25. Trinidad is the southernmost city of any size on I-25 in Colorado, roughly 20 miles north of Raton, NM and the New Mexico border. It's about 85–90 miles south of Pueblo, around 2 hours south of Colorado Springs, and about 3 hours south of Denver.

What's it like to paddle at Trinidad Lake?

Trinidad Lake is an 800-acre reservoir set in the foothills of the Culebra Range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, ringed by piñon-juniper forest and sandstone bluffs. Summer water temperatures run around 70°F, and the lake is generally calm, though afternoon winds can pick up. It's also open to motorized boats, water skiing, and personal watercraft, so you may share the water with other traffic — boats are required to slow to no-wake speed near the launch area and within 150 feet of shore anglers, which helps keep things manageable for paddlers. Wildlife sightings are common too, from deer and wild turkeys on shore to waterfowl like pelicans and herons out on the water.

Is the lake open year-round?

No, rentals run seasonally, April through October, 7 days a week.
