Description

1-Day Bike Rental in Sonoma, CA

Sonoma is the oldest wine valley in California, and one of the most rewarding places to explore by bike. The shop sits right at the head of a local bike path that leads straight into quiet country roads — within seconds of leaving the shop, you're riding through vineyard rows with 11 wineries within 5 miles. A single day gives you the freedom to set your own pace: stop at a winery or two, explore Sonoma's historic town square, or simply ride through the countryside and enjoy the scenery without an agenda.

The rental fleet covers every style of rider — comfort bikes for a relaxed cruise, 16-speed touring bikes for those who want gears and a more responsive ride, pedal-assist e-bikes for effortless winery-hopping, full carbon road bikes for serious cyclists, and tandem options for pairs who want to share the experience. Kids' bikes and equipment are also available. All rentals include a helmet, lock, map, and handlebar bag, along with expert route advice from the shop team.

What to Bring / Wear

  • Comfortable layers — mornings in Sonoma can be cool; pack something easy to remove mid-ride

  • Closed-toe shoes or securely strapped sandals
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Small bag or daypack for personal items
  • Camera or phone for photos
  • Credit card or cash for winery tasting fees (typically $35–55 per location; may be waived with minimum purchase)

Where can I ride from the shop?

The shop sits at the head of a local bike path that leads directly into Sonoma's quiet country roads and vineyard corridors. There are 11 wineries within 5 miles, making this one of the most accessible wine-country cycling experiences in California. Highlights within easy range include Sebastiani Winery (1.5 miles), Vella Cheese Factory (1.5 miles), Figone Olive Oil (1.5 miles), Scribe Winery (3.0 miles), Gundlach-Bundschu (3.0 miles), Tin Barn (3.0 miles), Bartholomew Estate (3.2 miles), and Buena Vista (2.2 miles). Note that some wineries along area roads are not safe to ride to — the shop team will advise you on which routes to avoid.

Which wineries are not safe to reach by bike?

Several wineries in the area are located on roads that are not suitable for cycling and should not be attempted. These include Anaba Wines, Cline Cellars, Gloria Ferrer Wines, Jacuzzi Vineyards, Kivelstadt Cellars, Larson Family, Robledo, Roche Winery (Bonness Rd), and Viansa. The shop team will provide full route guidance at pickup.

Do I need to book in advance?

Advance reservations are strongly recommended. The shop sells out of bikes regularly on weekends, holidays, and most summer and fall days.

What are the best wineries to visit on a 1-day rental from Sonoma?

With a full day, you have time to visit two or three wineries comfortably depending on your pace and how long you spend at each. The team's top picks within 5 miles include Buena Vista (2.2 miles), Gundlach-Bundschu (3.0 miles), Scribe (3.0 miles), Bartholomew Estate (3.2 miles), and Patz & Hall (2.3 miles). Ask the shop team for current recommendations at pickup — they know which wineries are welcoming walk-ins and which require reservations on any given day.

Do wineries require reservations?

Many Sonoma wineries require reservations, especially for groups of any size, and all require them for groups of 7 or more. The shop team can advise on current winery reservation requirements — it's worth calling ahead to your preferred stops before your rental day.

What is the best route for a beginner?

The shop sits directly at the head of a flat, car-free bike path that makes a perfect starting stretch for first-time or nervous riders. From there, the roads around the Sonoma Valley floor are generally quiet, lightly trafficked, and mostly flat. The shop team will walk you through the recommended beginner routes at pickup and can tailor their advice based on your group's comfort level and how far you want to ride.
