The southern part of Lake Tahoe is home to four ski resorts – Heavenly, Homewood, Kirkwood, and Sierra-at-Tahoe.
Heavenly Resort features 4630 acres of skiable terrain, and a vertical rise of 3500 feet. Skiers have 97 trails to choose from, with the longest run at 5.5 miles. Heavenly is also home to 2 terrain parks. Trail distribution is at 20% easy, 45% intermediate, and 35% advanced. Annual snowfall is at 360 inches.
Homewood Ski resort is on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, and features fabulous views of the lake and over 450 inches of snowfall annually. It is the smallest of the four, with 60 trails across 1260 acres, but 50% of that terrain is dedicated to intermediate trails.
Kirkwood is another option with 2300 acres of skiable terrain. It has 86 trails, and 354 inches of snow. Terrain breakdown is at 12% beginner, 30% intermediate, 38% advanced, 20% expert.
Sierra-at-Tahoe has 2000 acres of skiable terrain, with some of the area’s best beginner terrain. Locals and visitors alike love some of the most accessible backcountry terrain in Tahoe right from the resort, and the opportunities to ski in one of Tahoe’s only remaining old growth forests.
