A collection of five lakes just south of town, Pagosa Lakes boasts a number of paved, easy Pagosa Springs bike paths, perfect for a cruiser bike. The lakes themselves are scenic and you can paddleboard or kayak on them as well, though swimming is not allowed.
San Juan River Walk
If you’re looking for things to do in Pagosa Springs, you can’t go wrong with an easy ride down the San Juan River Walk. One of the best Pagosa Springs paved bike trails, the route follows the San Juan River for about two miles. The trail is almost entirely flat and five feet wide, so you have plenty of room to share the trail with the many other bikers and dog walkers who also use it!
Pagosa Springs is currently working on a multi-use trail that links the downtown area and the river walk with the paved biking paths at Pagosa Lakes. When to Go Biking in Pagosa Springs
Biking is best in the summer months of June and July when the weather is warm and the ground in Pagosa Springs is guaranteed to be dry and snow-free. It never gets uncomfortably hot in Pagosa Springs, with the highest temps hitting about 80-85 degrees in July. Pagosa Springs has a small county airport, but all the flights that land here connect through the airport in Durango – La Plata County Airport – which is about an hour’s drive from Pagosa Springs. The largest nearby international airports are Denver International Airport, which is about a 5 hour drive from Pagosa Springs, and Albuquerque International Sunport, less than 4 hour’s drive.
