Located in the Rocky Mountains of central Idaho is the outdoor adventure paradise of Ketchum – home to Sun Valley, the oldest ski resort in the United States. Apart from being a world class winter ski destination, Ketchum is the gateway to warm weather adventures in the surrounding Sawtooth mountains. Summer in Ketchum is all about mountain biking the area’s 118 miles of trails, including Bald Mountains 3400′ vertical, paddling the mountain streams and lakes, and hiking the hundreds of miles of trails in the Sawtooths. Ketchum has plenty of bike shops and other outdoor adventure providers, as well as some of the best restaurants, bars and shopping Idaho has to offer. The town of Ketchum has everything you need for your next outdoor adventure.

Sun Valley is an extremely bikeable town, and a top notch mountain biking destination. Flowing singletrack shares the terrain with advanced technical trails across the Ketchum and Sun Valley area. More than 118 miles of trails means you’re in for quite a ride. White Cloud, Corral Creek, and Adam’s Gulch trailheads feature smooth, flowing mountain bike trails, great for beginner and intermediate riders, or someone looking for a great workout with incredible views. The best thing about these trails is that you can ride right out of town. Greenhorn Imperial and Fisher Creek are a bit further outside of town, and are known for their high-speed descents and backcountry meadows. Looking to challenge your skills with technical, advanced terrain? Head up to Bald Mountain for the lift-serviced, high altitude riding at the resort. The Galena Lodge trail system north of Ketchum is a great place for the whole family – with trail options for everyone from beginners to expert, all laid out with fantastic flow and even better views.

Although Ketchum’s biking scene leans toward mountain biking, road biking is also quite popular in this Idaho town. Ketchum’s many miles of paved paths link the town to Galena and Stanley Basin to the north and Hailey and Bellevue to the south. Take the north road for the mountains, and the south for the farm country. Cruiser or electric bikes are an excellent way to explore the Ketchum area and the many bike paths that cross the town, like the Wood River trail – a paved path that extends over 30 miles through the communities of Hailey, Bellevue and Ketchum.

Just 2.5 hours from Boise, Ketchum is a great road trip option. Or fly into the centrally located Sun Valley airport to skip the commute. The best time to visit for summer adventures is June through September to ensure trails have dried out from the winter. Summers are hot and dry, but the high alpine trail options brings riders to cooler temperatures and alpine lakes and rivers for splashing around in.
