Waikiki Paddle Spots

Hawaii is the birthplace of stand up paddleboarding for a reason!  There is no shortage of places to surf and stand up paddleboard in Oahu.  Our knowledgeable staff will choose the right destination depending on your experience and preferences!  Waikiki is just a stone’s throw from Honolulu, and the water is calm with light winds – great for open water paddleboarding and beginner practice.  If you feel it is too crowded, there are plenty of places to get off the beaten path – small bays around the island where you can have a more solitary adventure.

Known as “The Gathering Place,” Oahu has diverse beaches and marine life to experience from your board. Here are some of our recommendations for the top SUP locations in Oahu.

Waikiki Bay

Waikiki is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Hawaii, and is centrally located just 20 minutes from Honolulu airport.  It is world renowned for great surfing and stand up paddleboarding.  Waikiki has calm enough waters to satisfy the beginner and the more experienced boarders and surfers.  The two-mile stretch of reef-sheltered beach is among the best location in the Hawaiian Islands for any ocean activity – from surfing, stand up paddlboarding to outrigger canoeing or swimming.

Ala Moana Beach Par

Ala Moana Beach Par is closer to Honolulu but often less crowded than Waikiki.  This beach is popular with paddleboarders due to the shallow coral reef that helps maintain the calm, flat waters.  This beach is a great place to launch when the surf is high at other beaches during the winter.  Beginners find the flat water ideal for learning, and experienced boarders find the waters great for distance paddling and training.  The Park also has lots of amenities for families, picnics and other activities.
