Description

Honolulu 100ft Wreck and 40ft Reef Dives - Certified Divers Only

Dive into the depths of the Oahu coast to explore sunken wrecks and a lush coral reef with our 2-tank shipwreck and reef dive tour! Deep in the 100ft (30.5 m) depths sit sunken wrecks from WW2 planes to massive sunken fishing vessels! These wrecks are home to ancient green sea turtles resting on the decks and prowling white tip reef sharks!
The adventure continues with a second dive, descending to 40 ft (12 m) to discover Oahu’s vibrant reefs. Here, you might encounter colossal moray eels peeking from between the corals, the camouflaged day octopus, and beautiful spotted eagle rays!
There are multiple wrecks and reef dive sites, and are therefore chosen the day of the dive depending on weather and water conditions. Requests for specific sites will be noted. Our certified professionals will ensure your safety and guide you through the highlights of each wreck and reef! For those who prefer to stay at the surface or are not certified, snorkelers and ride-along guests are welcome aboard as well!

Duration of Adventure

  • 3.5 hours total
  • 7:30 am start and returns around 11:00 am
  • First dive is a deep shipwreck and limited usually by bottom time or air. Approximately 20 to 22 minutes is the normal bottom time due to depth.
  • Surface interval is around 40 minutes to 1 hour
  • Second dive is a shallow reef and usually limited by air consumption, normally lasting around 40 minutes.

Wildlife Guidelines

Turtles, rays, sharks, seals, and dolphins are all protected in Hawaii. Please remember to keep your distance and never touch, feed, harass, or chase any wildlife in the water. Calmly watch from a distance! Also, please be aware of your body placement and equipment when around the reefs and wrecks. There is fragile coral, and many wrecks are rusting and breaking down, therefore to avoid damaging them further, please don't knock into them!

FAQs

Are there any health, weight, or experience restrictions?
This is a dive solely for certified divers that are minimum 15 years old and those comfortable diving in 100ft/30m. Snorkelers and ride-alongs are more than welcome. Everyone who enters the water must be able to climb out of the water by a ladder into the boat, removal of gear is allowed in this situation.
Most likely by this point in your certification, you've already been cleared to dive but if you've answered "YES" to any of the questions on the Medical Questionnaire, you will need to provide a physician's signed PADI Medical Statement and Guidelines for Recreational Scuba Divers Physical Examination prior to diving. If you have not consulted with a physician and have a signed document at the time of the dive, you will not be able to dive and the cost will not be refunded.
Can I go if I’m only Open Water Certified?
Yes, you can go on this adventure with open water certification. The limit of 60 ft for open water certification is if you are going on your own or with other open water certified divers. Since there will be an instructor accompanying you, you are able to go deeper than that limit.
Can I fly after diving? **ANY elevation above 1000 FT (305m) is DANGEROUS
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
  • A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 12 hours suggested.
  • Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 18 hours is suggested.
  • Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
Can I bring a camera?
You are welcome to bring a camera but it is your responsibility to ensure it is in a DIVE safe case. Pressure increases when you are diving down and although it doesn't feel all that different to you, it will impact your camera. To be safe, a case certified to 60 feet or 18 meters is a good idea! GoPros for example have a specific clear dive housing that is rated to bring them to depth. The case must be more than just waterproof, also depth and pressure proof. The company is not responsible for any damaged or lost equipment.
Instructors also bring GoPros to get clips and photos of participants. These will be given to you with no extra fee but if you want specific shots, you should plan to bring your own camera.
What about sharks?
Sharks hunt at dusk and dawn and therefore rarely, if ever, seen on tours. They are simply wild animals that also share the ocean but most often people rarely see them. The most common sharks to spot are small reef sharks that prefer to immediately leave the presence of people and boats and tend to be harmless towards people.
What are the options for diving spots?
  • Sea Tiger (80-130ft/25-40m) - This is an advanced dive as it claims the title for deepest recreational wreck on the island. Originally a fishing vessel, this ship was sunk in 1996 by a submarine company for its tours. However, shortly after the company closed and the site quickly became a must dive for locals and visitors. Large schools of pyramid butterflyfish, massive sea turtles, and white tip sharks frequent this wreck.
  • YO 257/San Pedro (60-100ft/18-30m) - Enjoy this 2-for-1 special! Two unique shipwrecks sit only about 100ft/30m apart. When the conditions are just right, you can see the other wreck off in the distance. Great corals share the decks with large numbers of fish and several species of eels. These sites were also sunk by a submarine company, and they still frequent the area. If you're lucky, you will see the long white sub pass around and between the two wrecks. Don't get too close!
  • Turtle Canyon (15-30ft/5-10m) - It's in the name! As many as a dozen green sea turtles can be seen together here. Take a knee and watch one of the busiest turtle cleaning stations on the island. Several at a time gather to have their shells cleaned by tangs, wrasses, and other fish. The turtles are used to divers, so getting a photo with one is usually easy. Don't touch though, these guys are protected by law.
  • Nautilus Reef (30-60ft/10-18m) - A great example of Hawaiian hard corals creates a nice elongated reef. One of those rare dives where white tips can almost always be found resting under lava rock ledges by day. Massive yellow margin moray eels, leaf scorpionfish, and octopus are also common.
  • Horseshoe Reef/Kewalo Pipe (40-65ft/12-20m) - Another southside double whammy! Horseshoe reef gets its name from its shape. Here you can find several species of eels, pincushion starfish, and antler coral. Swim 50ft/15m to Kewalo pipe. Keep your eyes peeled for spotted eagle rays off in the distance and continue to follow along a drainage pipe covered in coral and little critters.
