Experience a cycling adventure along New Mexico’s largest river, the Rio Grande. This tour beings and end in the heart of Albuquerque. The Rio Grande River is the fourth largest river system in the US, and has a history as rich as the soil it traverses. The history of the Rio Grande Valley in Albuquerque embraces her life-giving waters and is deeply rooted in agricultural heritage. Modern Albuquerque was founded unofficially in the late 1600’s, when farmers were given tracts of land or ranchos, along the banks of the Rio Grande. Since that time farmers of the Rio Grande valley have used intricate systems of acequias to water their crops.
Our half-day excursion departs from our Heritage Inspirations ABQ Shop, where we will experience the sights, sounds, and smells of life along the river as we cycle nearly 6 miles of her banks. We will visit community-based farms, the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park which offers an important look at the natural history of the Rio Grande River and an exclusive chance to view some of the wildlife that calls the “bosque” home.
Next stop is Los Poblanos Inn and Farm, a historic inn and working farm that was founded in the 1930’s. This dynamic property employs farming practices that have been used in this region for hundreds of years, as well as utilizing innovating and modern technologies to provide fresh produce for their on-site farm to table restaurant. We will have an opportunity to learn about their hybrid Grosso lavender crop and the processes they use to make their signature products.
This inclusive tour is a great introduction to the agricultural heritage of the Albuquerque. We offer you the opportunity experience the beauty and rich history that the Rio Grande has provided us for hundreds of years.

What To Bring
At high elevations and in a dry climate, proper hydration and sun protection is a necessity. New Mexico weather can also change without much notice. Please fill out your electronic waiver form found in your confirmation email.
We recommend bringing:
- Sunscreen & SPF lip balm
- Hat and/or sunglasses
- Layered clothing, including a light, long sleeve layer for sun protection and a rain layer
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Water, water, water

Half & Full Day Tours
Our Day Tour Bookings require full deposit at the time of booking. Due to the intimate size of our trips, we will refund cancellations when informing our team up to 14 days in advance. Any cancellations not within a 14 day notice will be non-refundable. We regret that exceptions to our cancellation policy cannot be made for any reason, including weather, terrorism, civil unrest or personal emergencies. There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a trip early, however persons may be substituted within a reservation without penalty.
Multi-Day and Overnight Tours
When booking one our Multi-Day excursions 50% of the Total Trip Deposit is due at the time of booking. To process this deposit please call so this can be manually processed 1.888.344.TOUR (there is not a way to process deposits without Heritage Inspirations applying). Your final deposit is due 30 Days before the Tour Departure Date. Cancellations can be made up to 45 days prior to receive a full refund for your tour departure date. We regret that exceptions to our cancellation policy cannot be made for any reason, including weather, terrorism, civil unrest or personal emergencies. There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a trip early.
However, persons may be substituted within a reservation without penalty.
Heritage Inspirations is required by law to charge Gross Receipts tax to each person booking a tour. Taos, New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax applied to total trip cost is 8.675%.
