Description

Canyoneering + Paddling Combo Trip

Join us for the ultimate desert adventure! We mix time on the world-famous red slickrock with time on the refreshing waters of the Colorado River to provide the whole family an immersive experience in Utah’s Canyon Country.
On this Canyoneering + Paddling combo trip, we will hike, climb, rappel, and stand up paddle through canyons, up fins, off arches, and into the water. In the morning, we will work on introductory canyoneering techniques, following side canyons and fins towards the arches we will climb up and rappel off of. This trip is suitable for the whole family and requires moderate physical fitness but zero previous experience with the activities offered. We’re here to learn together!
As the day gets warmer, we will head downstream and eat lunch along the banks of the Colorado River before paddle boarding on its placid waters.
This trip is all-inclusive and includes lunch, all canyoneering and river equipment, the most fun and knowledgeable guides in Moab, and transportation to and from town. Gratuity is not included but is always appreciated – our guides work hard to make sure you have the time of your life here in Moab!
Trip Distance: 3 miles of hiking, 6 miles of river paddling
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Come Prepared: While we provide all technical gear required, we highly recommend bringing clothing that is comfortable for moderate activity and swimming, shoes that provide support on trails and protection in the river, and ample sun protection. It’s the desert!

FAQs

What is Canyoneering?
Canyoneering is an adventure sport that combines multiple outdoor activities such as hiking, boulder-hopping and waterfall rappelling to traverse down a canyon, typically formed by a river.
Can I learn to Stand Up Paddleboard?
‍Most people can - and they love it! It is relatively easy to learn... most pick up the basics right away. All ages and skill levels can participate.
Will I get wet?
Maybe... After all, paddle boarding is a water sport. Canyoneering often is, too. Many people do not get wet, but those who do usually have more fun. And the sooner you fall off and learn how to get back on the better. Once you are already wet, and you know how to get back on, you are more likely to try more things because who cares, you're already wet! It's not a badge of honor to stay dry. If you get wet it just means you tried something new.
Do I need to be in good shape to go canyoneering?
Yes. Time in the canyon averages between 3-4 hours depending on the size of the group and the canyon location. You will be outdoors on steep, boulder-strewn and potentially slick terrain. A good rule of thumb for fitness is: You can comfortably walk 3 miles on semi-steep and/or uneven trails carrying a light pack. Or, you can comfortably hike on uphill and downhill slopes and climb or descend 5 flights of stairs, and can climb a ladder with ease.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow pets on our trips.
Is the canyoneering + paddling trip safe?
While any outdoor activity has inherent risk, at Paddle Moab our top priority is always safety, and reducing/mitigating any risks. We bring extensive experience to our canyoneering and climbing trips. Our guides also have advanced first aid training. That said, you are also responsible for your own safety. Please listen carefully to safety briefings and always follow your guide's instructions - because a safe trip is a fun trip!
